What documents will I need?
You will be asked to present your driving licence and credit card when you come to collect your car. Further identification, such as a passport, may also be required.
DRIVING LICENCE
o Your driving licence will need to be held for at least one year and be from your country of residence. If your licence is of non-roman alphabet (e.g. Japanese), then an International driving licence will be required.
o An International Driver's Permit alone isn't sufficient for a rental - it only be used in conjunction with a standard driving licence.
CREDIT CARD
o The credit card you present when collecting your vehicle must be in the driver's name.
o This is required for security reasons and to identify you.
How old do I need to be to rent?
You must be aged 21 or over to rent in Romania and have held a full clean driving licence for at least one year. A Young Driver Surcharge is applicable for drivers under the age of 25. This is currently charged at 5 EUR (taxable) per day up to a maximum of 10 days.
Are there mileage limits?
The majority of rental rates offer free unlimited mileage. However, some Avis rates will give you a limit of free mileage and charge extra for additional mileage made over that limit. You will be advised at the time of booking whether unlimited mileage is included, or you can ask at the Avis desk when you collect your car.
Will there be petrol in the car?
All rental cars are provided with a full tank of fuel and should be refuelled prior to return to Avis, otherwise refuelling charges will apply. Alternatively, you may purchase your fuel in advance - just ask at the Avis desk about the Pre-Paid Fuel Option.
Can another person drive the rental vehicle?
The rental vehicle is normally only insured for the person who makes the rental. If others plan to drive the car, they must be added to the Rental Agreement when the car is collected. There will be a charge for each additional driver of 25 EUR (taxable) per rental.
How much does rental cost?
We charge in periods of 24 hours, so if you take a car for 26 hours for instance, it would be charged as 2 days. We do allow a grace time of 29 minutes before we charge for an additional day. The actual cost of the rental will depend on the group of car, when you rent, for how long and where.
What if I break down or need help outside office hours?
Avis provides free 24 hour Roadside Assistance in case of emergency, breakdown or accident involving your Avis rental car anywhere in the Romania. Just call the number provided on your rental document.
What happens if the car gets damaged?
Existing damage should be indicated on your rental agreement. However, please check over the car yourself when you first collect it. If you notice anything at all, please tell the rental agent who will record it on the Rental Agreement.
The rental agent will inspect the car when you return it. If any damage has occurred during rental you will have to pay the cost of repair up to the replacement value of the car, unless you are covered for Collision Damage Waiver, in which case you will only have to pay an excess.
If the car is returned out of station's opening hours, you will remain responsible for the condition of the vehicle until it can be inspected by a member of Avis' staff.
I am going to return my car later than agreed. Is this ok?
We understand you might get delayed, so we try to be flexible. If you are running late or need to extend your car rental, do make sure you contact us as soon as possible. Should you return the car late, without notifying us or extending your rental, you may be subject to a late return fee in some countries.
Please note, if you return your vehicle after the agreed date and time, you will pay an additional days rental charge, plus a late return fee for each day (or part of a day) that you are late (where applicable).
