If you plan to take an Avis rental car for your trip, it is not possible to make your Eurotunnel booking online as your car make/model and registration will be required, which you will not know until you pick up your rental car. These details won’t be necessary when booking through the Eurotunnel Contact Centre on 03443 35 16 42 (charged at local rate) and quoting Avis.

Continental Cover must be purchased with Avis, which is available at selected rental locations for selected car groups. Please refer to the “How to Book Your Self-Drive Trip” page here for current information.

Having made your Avis reservation online, please call our reservations hotline on 0808 284 0014 or 0808 284 0163 for Avis Preferred members, (free from a UK BT landline; calls from mobiles will be charged at your network's chosen rate), to arrange cover ahead of collection. When you talk to us, we'll need the following information:

Number of people travelling in the vehicle

Names of all drivers

Countries to be visited

When leaving the UK on a cross-border rental, the maximum rental period is 28 days and we require a minimum of 5 working days' notice.
The car must be returned to the UK as one-way rentals are not permitted.
It is not possible to take vans out of the UK at present.
It is not possible to take Car Group K or Car Group N vehicles out of the UK at present.
Avis is unable to provide any compulsory vehicle equipment required for driving abroad (e.g. warning triangles, first aid kits, fluorescent jackets, breathalysers), which vary by country. It is the renter's responsibility to be aware of the legal requirements of the country they are visiting and to purchase these items themselves.
Standard Avis age, driver and credit card requirements apply. All rentals are subject to Avis' standard terms and conditions, which are detailed on the reverse of the rental agreement and online at www.avis.co.uk. Insurance policy details should be read at time of rental.
All rentals may be subject to additional charges (e.g. for special equipment, additional drivers, young drivers, optional insurances, fuel etc.).
