What does 'Vehicle Registration Fee' mean?
In most countries, a 'registration fee' or 'vehicle registration fee' is levied. This fee is revealed separately and covers costs related to vehicle registration, motorway tolls (Vignette), etc. Depending on the country, the fee is levied per rental day or as a fixed amount per rental. This fee is normally included in the quote.
I am unable to enrol for preferred; the system suggests that there is a problem with my credit card. What am I doing wrong?
Avis are aware that there may sometimes be problems with the preferred enrolment function. Some of the problems related to employees already having Avis profiles, this has now been resolved. If an employee is having difficulty enrolling for Avis Preferred they should send an e-mail to accountservices@avis.co.uk who will aim to respond to them within 24 hours of receipt.
When I have reserved a vehicle the cost appears to be higher than I was expecting?
The rates quoted on this site will be inclusive of VAT and Road Fund License.
I often require a vehicle for delivery out of hours, i.e. 06:00 hours, when I make the reservation the e-mail confirmation appears to reflect a different start time and tariff to that requested?
Avis' operating system precludes them from making reservations when the delivery station would normally be closed. To bypass this constraint the system returns a booking time of 17:59 (or the last minute of business prior to the start of hire) This will mean a different start time is visible on the confirmation and that the price may vary from the quoted one. However, you can rest assured that the final charges and invoice will reflect the correct parameters.
I have tried enrolling for Avis Preferred but the system tells me I cannot as I am younger than 23, is this correct?
Avis' policy for Preferred enrolment precludes anyone under the age of 23 signing up due to some insurance restrictions that may apply:
  • Company Own Onsurance (COI) - If your contracted rates with Avis are on Company Own Insurance (COI), where your company insures rental vehicles, then you can still sign up to Avis Preferred. This is only applicable if you are covered by your company's motor insurane policy and it is the individuals responsibility to ensure that they are covered. If you are unsure Avis recommend you contact you insurance/fleet manager to check. To apply please email accountservices@avis.co.uk to request an application form.
  • Avis Insurance - If your contracted rates with Avis includes Avis Insurance If your contracted rates with Avis includes Avis Insurance the minimum age to sign up to Avis Preferred is 23.

I often use another colleague's Credit Card to make reservations and hire vehicles, can I continue to do this with Avis and can we both use the same card to enrol for Avis Preferred?
Avis' policy requires that the credit cards used for payment should belong to the hirer. The Preferred enrolment process will not allow multiple profiles against the same credit card and will reject the application. Employees should use a different credit card. If a contractor has a frequent rental requirement they should contact their line manager.
I have tried to make a Delivery and/or Collection reservation on the microsite and cannot find my site listed what should I do?
If you find that your site is not listed in the drop down please use the Delivery to other postcode search function.
What should I do if I require an additional driver on the rental?
Additional Driver process varies depending on how the vehicle is insured:
  • Company Own Onsurance (COI) - If your contracted rates with Avis are on Company Own Insurance (COI), where your company insures rental vehicles, then any persons (usually employees) that are covered by the policy may drive the Avis Vehicle.
  • Avis Insurance - If you contracted rates with Avis includes Avis Insurance, then only named drivers on the Rental Agreement may drive the vehicle (additional driver charges may apply). If you wish to add an addition driver please contact the Rental Station responsible for your rental, details will be on the Rental Agreement.

How old do I need to be to rent on Avis Insurance?
Minimum age changes by country and type of car. In the UK, you can rent from Avis when you are 17 years old or over (you will need to have held a driving licence for at least 36 months and a credit card). A Young Driver Surcharge is applicable for drivers under the age of 25.
What insurances do I need if I am hiring a vehicle outside of the UK?
As a simple rule of thumb, outside the UK, Avis rates are loaded into the system to include CDW and TP which provide a maximum liability to the hirer in the event of vehicle accident or theft. The excess levels vary according to country and car group and typically are in the range of €600 - €1000 maximum liability per incident. Third party liability is ALWAYS included worldwide.
