General information
It is important to us that you enjoy your experience with us and have all the information you need. This document contains information you need to know about your rental. We encourage you to read it, it might take you a little time now but will save you time later.

Local currency is ISK (Icelandic Krona).
Local VAT is 24% - all items are taxable except protections.
Surcharges:
Keflavik international airport: ISK 5.400,- (incl. tax) pr. rental starting at the international airport.
Additional Driver Information
Additional drivers must be registered on the rental agreement and meet the same driving license criteria as the main driver.
Additonal drivers surcharge is ISK 900,- pr. day. Maximum charge 7 days, ISK 6.300,-
Age Requirements
Driver must be at least 18 years old, except for luxury, specialty vehicles and larger minibuses. All drivers must have held their license for at least one year before the start of the rental. The driver must hold a valid licence throughout the period stated in the rental agreement. In other respects, Icelandic law shall apply to the driver.
Drivers who are 18-19 years old are subject to an additional young driver fee.
Luxury, specialty vehicles and larger minibuses: minimum age is 20 years. For drivers that are 20-22 years old are subject to an additional young driver fee. Young Driver surcharge is 1.000 ISK (incl. tax) per day.
No maximum age limit.
Drivers License and ID Requirements
All drivers must have held their license for at least one year before the start of the rental except when renting our large SUVs and Luxury cars. Then the driver must have held a license for at least three years before the start of the rental.
The rental of larger vehicles which require advanced licenses necessitates the driver to present the appropriate valid license (vehicles with more than 9 seats).
The driver must hold a valid licence throughout the period stated in the rental agreement. In other respects, Icelandic law shall apply to the driver.
Drivers must bring an international driving license or an offical translation if:
The driver’s license was issued in a non-roman alphabet like Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Russian, Hebrew or Japanese or other similar non-roman alphabet-based languages.
The driver’s license was issued outside of Europe or North America.
Additional drivers must be registered on the rental agreement and meet the same driver’s license criteria that the main driver does.
Payment Options
In order to validate a rental you are required to present a credit card in your name. We cannot remotely authorise credit cards, nor can we accept authorisation from a credit card if the cardholder is not present. We accept Mastercard, Visa and American Express. Debit cards, prepaid credit cards or cash are not accepted.
Cancellations and No Show Charges
Pre-paid bookings:
If time of cancellation is before midnight on the day of booking we give you a full refund and take no fee for cancellation.
If time of cancellation is at least 3 complete days before pick-up you will be charged a cancellation fee of 5.500 ISK. The rest of your payment will be fully refunded.
If time of cancellation is less than 3 complete days before pick-up we charge you the net cost of 3 days of your rental period. If the booking was for less than 3 days, we will retain the full amount.
If time of cancellation is on the day of pick-up or if you do not cancel and fail to show up you get no refund. We will retain the full amount.
Not pre-paid bookings (pay at arrival):
If you do not cancel the booking and fail to show up we will charge you a penalty fee of 7.000 ISK
Taking Your Vehicle Outside the Country
You are not permitted to travel with the vehicle outside of the country in any circumstances.

Available upon request: 10.000 ISK (tax incl.) per rental.
Delivery and Collection
Delivery & Collection not available. All rented vehicles are required to be returned at one of Avis & Budget Rental locations. In case it does not happen, a Collection charge of 15.000 ISK (tax incl.) will be charged on customer´s credit card.
One Way Rentals
Reykjavik to Keflavik: ISK 4.500 (incl. tax)
Keflavik to Reykjavik: free of charge
Akureyri to/from Saudarkrokur: ISK 9.000 (incl. tax)
Between all other locations: ISK 18.000 (incl. tax)
Waiver and Protection Options
CDW (TP+PAI included), SCDW, Wind and Gravel Protection (WGP).
Fuel charges
At the start of the rental you will receive the vehicle with a full tank of fuel. Vehicles must be returned with a full tank of fuel. If the vehicle is not returned with a full tank of fuel, we reserve the right to charge you for the fuel as well as a service fee for doing so, unless you chose the ‘Fuel up-front’ option at the beginning of the rental. If you chose to buy our pre-paid fuel option, this is not refundable unless the fuel tank is full.
Fines
Traffic Fines cannot be paid at rental location. Parking fines have to be paid at local banks otherwise Avis will charge the fine plus a service fee of 4.500 ISK. Speeding tickets are sent to Avis where a service of 4.500 ISK is
charged. The police will then invoice the renter directly for the fine.
Miscellaneous Information
Surcharges
Keflavik airport surcharge: 5.400 ISK (incl. tax) per rental. Included in rates booked on Avis websites.
Toll Fee - when using toll tunnels, roads and bridges as well as metered parking areas and the renter fails to pay the toll/fee as signposted, this will be either be charged on the rental agreement or a separate invoice is sent to the renter after the end of the rental.
Current fees incl. administration fee:
4.000 ISK for Vaðlaheiði tunnel
2.000 ISK for parking at Þingvellir and Skaftafell National Parks.
Special Equipment
BBS Baby Seat - on request - 7.000 ISK per rental incl. tax
CSS Child Seat - on request - 7.000 ISK per rental incl. tax
CBS Booster Seat - on request - 5.000 ISK per rental incl. tax
Winter tires provided free of charge during winter period.
Ski racks and snow chains not available.
WiFi device available on request at stations in Keflavík and Reykjavík. Price per day ISK 1800 incl. tax. Max. charge 7 days
Credit Card Requirements
Renter agrees that the rental company can take a pre-authorization on an approved credit card (MasterCard, Visa or American Express that is in the renter’s name). Debit cards are only approved if renter is willing to accept the risk that part of the authorization will not be refunded. This is due to the well-known and common communication problem between the issuer of debit cards and the payment handler. The rental company is not responsible if the pre-authorization on debit cards are lost. The pre-authorization amount covers the estimated cost of any extras, fuel, potential additional days, toll and road fees, parking fines, administration fees and all other miscellaneous charges.
Driving restrictions
2wd vehicles, electric cars, as well as group M (Skoda Octavia or similar) are not allowed to be driven on roads marked F on official maps as well as Kjölur (road 35, north of Gullfoss) and Kaldidalur (road 550). Should these restrictions be ignored, all insurance (Third Party Liability, CDW, TP, WP, PAI), if accepted, shall be deemed, null and void. The driver will be held fully responsible in case of accidents or collision, including the cost of repair of the damaged vehicle and the cost of towing.
Should a car be spotted on a road on which it is not allowed, Avis will impose a fine that will be charged to the renter’s credit card – even if no damage occurs to the car. This fine currently amounts to ISK 100.000. This fine does not affect the liability of the renter to pay for any damage.
