What's Included? Excess Explained Optional Insurances Additional Services & Charges
Your rental quote should provide you with everything you need to put your keys in the car and go. However, there are additional services and optional insurances that will not be included. The following section is designed to outline and explain everything your car hire quote includes (and what is not included) so you can feel safe in the knowledge that you know what you are paying for.
Your Avis car hire quote will generally include the following:
Unlimited Mileage
This means that there will be no additional charge no matter how many miles the car is driven.
Airport/City Surcharge
This applies to rentals taking place from an airport or city location.
Vehicle Theft Cover - Also known as Theft Protection
This covers the cost of replacing your rental car (or parts of it) if it gets stolen. You will, however, have to pay an excess towards the replacement cost. This will vary by country and can be up to £650 in the UK. Please note: some rates do not include Vehicle Theft Cover and you should check that this is included at time of reservation. Your car hire quote, however, will state whether Vehical Theft Cover is included.
What is not covered? Negligence when leaving car unsupervised, or keys safe keeping (e.g. left in ignition)
Vehicle Damage Cover - Also known as Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) in Australia, NZ and USA
If the rental car is damaged you will be covered for the cost of repairs. You will, however, have to pay an excess towards the cost of the repair. This will vary by country and can be up to £650 in the UK. This applies regardless of fault. If we can recover these costs from a responsible third party, we'll reimburse you. Please note: some rates do not include Vehicle Damage Cover and you should check that this is included at time of reservation. Your car hire quote, however, will state whether Vehicle Damage Cover is included.
What's not covered?
Intentional damage/gross negligence
Damage caused by not using correct fuel
Damage caused as a result of a breach of the rental agreement
Damage through attempted theft
Third Party Cover - Also known as Motor Liability Insurance and Legal Liability Insurance
By law, this is automatically included in to you rental price in case you cause damage to someone or something, including passengers and their property, when using the Avis vehicle.
What's not covered?
Theft or attempted theft of the vehicle
Theft of personal belongings from the vehicle
Death or injury to the driver
Damage to the rental vehicle
Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF)
Also, known as Road Fund Licence (RFL) fee, is included in your quote.
Tax
The tax on the rate is included.
Discounts and Promotions
Any online discount that is being promoted is automatically included in the price. If the terms of the offer require that you enter an Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number then please ensure this is entered on Step 1. Please ensure any amendments are made online to retain discount.
In the event of an accident to or theft of the vehicle, then a sum of money (an excess) will be paid by the renter. Optional insurances, which are not automatically included in your Avis car hire (see optional insurances), will either waive or reduce the amount of excess. These can be purchased locally at the rental station when you collect your car.
These are NOT INCLUDED in your Avis quote but can be purchased at the rental counter to provide additional cover and/or reduce the excess. Local taxes also apply and varies by country.
Reducing your excess
For peace of mind car hire Avis offer products to reduce your excess when you collect your rental vehicle. In the UK our Premier cover is our most comprehensive and care free cover. This includes:
- Reduces your excess to just £100
- FREE additional driver
- Super Personal Accident Insurance (the same Personal Accident Insurance* but with increased limits)
hat’s included?
*Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Should you have an accident during the rental, as a driver or passenger, this will cover some medical expenses, accidental death payment and assistance / rescue. If you have holiday insurance, you may not need this. Please check your holiday insurance.
Price; £4.75 a day
Personal Accident Insurance is available for purchase at the rental station when collecting your car (not available for pre-booking online)

The following charges will not be included in your car rental quote and will be payable locally at the end of your rental.
Additional Driver
The rental car is insured for one person only. Should you wish to add additional drivers, then please do so when you pick up your car. There will be an additional charge for each additional driver which is payable at time of rental. A full driving licence for each additional driver (held for at least one year, three years in Cyprus) will also need to be provided at time of rental.
Additional Equipment
e.g. child seats, ski racks, GPS, snow chains etc. are available at an additional cost paid at time of rental. These should be requested at time of booking and are subject to availability.
Fuel
All rental cars are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refuelled prior to return to Avis, otherwise refuelling charges will apply. Alternatively, you can save time and money by purchasing your fuel in advance. Please ask at the Avis rental desk for details of Fuel Up Front.
One Way rentals
If you plan to return the car to a different rental location a one way fee may apply.
Young Driver Surcharge
Drivers under 25 may be subject to a Young Driver Surcharge. Please check country terms and conditions when booking.
